Dr. Reed researches nonhuman rhetorical theory and Dr. Smith studies global health and epidemiology. This may seem an odd academic pairing, but the impulse guiding both of their scholarship is to forge new frameworks for solidarity among humans and their natural environments. For Dr. Reed, that means questioning how we understand and participate in nonhuman persuasion; for Dr. Smith, that’s developing methodologies for addressing public health that grapple with cultural differences.
Together, they developed IF Summit OBX as a celebration of the weird and wonderful ways we discover connection with one another, human and nonhuman alike.
"We both care deeply about confronting the limits of our academic disciplines and rooting our scholarship in the lived environments of our theoretical inquiries."
